The lecturers of Department teach 18 disciplines for full-time and external students of Agronomy, Land Managing and qualification  level of   “Bachelor” and “Master”. The Department actively cooperates with the Institute of Postgraduates Studies  and also with separate structural subunits of Lviv National Agrarian University (colleges, technical schools).

Basic courses: Ecology with “Geomorphology”, “Soil Science”, “Agrochemistry”, “Programming of crops”, “Fertilization system of crops”, “Farming”, “Agrochemical service of agricultural formations”, “Efficient usage and protection of soils”, “Higher education and Bologna Process”.

Educational level , educational-methodological work is  supported  by open educational process, visiting each other’s lectures,  laboratory and practical classes, defenses of course  papers (projects) in the presence of special committee, study and introduction of the advanced  experience according to the credit-module system under demands of Bologna Declaration.

At the Department educational-methodological  complexes or all disciplines are opened, they have typical working program, methodological recommendations for laboratory and practical classes, course papers (projects), independent work management, questions for self-control, tests or separate topics and module, control questions for   final module control and rector’s control works.

The Department  gives lectures  with the contribution of the Information Technology Department and elaborates: 14 controlling (“Geology with Geomorphology”  and “Soil Studies”)  and 8 rated ( “Programming of crops” ) computer programs.

Every lecturer  of the Department supervises  a process of  course paper writing . Every year state Examination Board recommends for implementation presentation of  7-10  diploma papers; 2-3 graduate students are recommended for entering the postgraduate study.

Research work

The Department staff participates in the  of the faculty complex scientific theme Agrotechnology and  Ecology on “Llaboration  of scientifically reasonable control system over the plant-growing and farming product potential on the basis of ecologically stabilizing measures on the soil protection in the agroclimatic zones of the western region of Ukraine”. In addition, the Department carries research work on “Elaboration of agrochemical and agroecological  bases of the culture fertilizing systems in the grain and cultivated crop rotation of western forest-steppe of Ukraine”.  Today the Department  scientists are fruitfully working or the topical problems of soil fertility preservation and soil protection,  in particular that of erosive danger territories, effective use of the  damaged lands and soils of technogenic origin; agrochemical soil contamination , development of the ecologically safe and economically expedient fertilizing systems, plant-growing products quality evaluation, application of new types mineral and organically mineral fertilizers, issues of crop rational fertilizing.

The Department representatives  have defended three doctoral (Hilis M.B., Krylova H.I., Panas R.N.) and 33 candidate theses, prepared and published 7 monographs, 6 manuals, over 760 scientific and scientifically-methodical articles.

Within  the last two years the Department scientists have gained two approvals on the useful models:

  • Winter wheat fertilizing method in the short crop rotation”.
  • Sugar beet fertilizing method in the short crop rotation”.

There are student scientific clubs “Agrochemist”, and “Farmer” with the annual participation of 40-50 second-fifth yeas students and full-time masters. The basic direction of students researches is the study of new forms of mineral fertilizers and plant growth  regulators; determination of the efficiency of various organic and mineral fertilizer norms application for the separate agricultural crops, determination of the influence of fertilizers on the harvest and quality of  agricultural products and agrochemical soil indexes; study of different soil types agricultural characteristics and elaboration of its improvement measures, calculation of the organic and mineral fertilizers requirements for the crop rotation of a particular farm.
