Department of Ecology and Biology

History

Department of Ecology and Biology was established at the Faculty of Agronomy at Lviv State Agricultural University, 1 July 1999. The Department is headed by well-known scientist in the field of Biological and Agricultural Sciences, Honored Scientist of Ukraine, Academician of Ukrainian National Academy of Agriculture (UNAA), Full Member of Ukrainian Academy of High School (UAHS), Member of New York Academy of Sciences (NYAS), Doctor of Biology (PhD), Professor Volodymyr Snitynskyy.

Volodymyr Snitynskyy is the author of more than 380 scientific works including 7 monographs, Member of  Specialized Council of doctoral theses in the field of “Biochemistry”, Member of  Expert Commission in the Committee of State Prizes of Ukraine in Science and Technology, Deputy of the Western Scientific Center NASU, Chairman of  Lviv Western Scientific Center of  NASU and Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, Head of  Biology, Medicine and Agriculture Department and Agricultural Sciences Section, Head of  Lviv Regional Society “Knowledge”, Member of  the Central Council of  Ukrainian Biochemical and Physiological Associations.

Research results of the Department are used for making management decisions to improve ecological conditions in the areas of environmental impact of building companies and dumps.

The invention of the Department researchers "Method for prevention of anemia and oxidative stress in early age pigs" has received the patent and it is used at present.

6 licenses and 4 patents were obtained by the Department.  4 doctors of sciences and 30 candidates of sciences were prepared at the Department. There is also postgraduate education under specializations  of  “Biology” and “Ecology”.

The herbarium of professor Voloschak and collections of exhibits  that were collected in the second half of last century by professor Mauritsio, are very important for LNAU Nature Museum, they are kept at the Department.

Scientific and research work

The scientific and research work of the Department is carried on the title : “Research of the condition and dynamics of natural components of agro systems of the west region of Ukraine and conduct the actions of optimization their effective functioning in the terms of anthropogenesis.” The research consists of the following chapters:

1.     To study the ecological condition of technologically polluted and damaged territories of west region of Ukraine.

2.     To examine the condition of separate components of the agro systems in terms of agro technological load.

3.     Study and development of certain elements of the system of  ecosate  exploitation of water resources.
